ACC Men’s Week 1: Johns, Solan top 18-team field
A youngster who grew up snapping drivers at ACC and the guy who sets the pins paced the opening night of the Anaconda Country Club Men’s League Tuesday evening. Once again, even with the health restrictions and uncertainty surrounding group outings, the annual league went off without a hitch.
Paul Johns fired an even-par 35 while Jim “Bird” Solan came in with a net 28, aided by a little extra course knowledge, to pace all golfers in the 18-team league.
Four shared the Duece Pot including Joe Mehrens, Bill Edwards, Greg Manson and some loner off the street named Ricco Ungaretti. Curt Gannon’s approach shot on No. 7, his second hole of the evening, held up for Closest To The Pin.
Thompson’s Bar took the Week 1 lead with 30.5, out in front of ACC Pro Shop by a 1.5.
