Two of Anaconda’s student-athletes from last week in volleyball and football earned the nod for this edition of the Copperhead Athletes of the Week presented by Dee Motors, Community Hospital of Anaconda, Skyline Sports, Crawshaw Family McDonalds, Washoe Theatre, Zo Photo and Copperhead Country.

Owen Pesanti
Maizee Mitchell

Maizee Mitchell, a 5-8 middle blocker, is the first ever eighth grader to not only suit up for varsity in volleyball at Anaconda High, but also be part of the starting lineup. Mitchell helped guide Anaconda to a 3-0 sweep of Mission Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium. Mitchell served three aces in addition to tallying three blocks and two kills.

Senior Owen Pesanti, a 5-11, 165-pound wide receiver and defensive back, scored one long touchdown for the ‘Heads and was a fingernail away from another during Friday’s game against Fairfield. Pesanti two catches for 71 yards highlighted by a 67-yard TD reception in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter, a late bobble in double-coverage cost him what could’ve been a 70-yarder as well. Pesanti added four solo and seven total tackles on defense.

All season long, each winner of the AOTW will receive movie tickets to Washoe Theatre, a $10 gift card to McDonald’s and at the end of each season will be entered for a chance to win a $250 Athletes Pass from Shine PT+Wellness.
