BUTTE – Anaconda found themselves in a loaded bracket full of Class A teams that will vie for state hardware. And although their 2-6 overall record wasn’t what they hoped for, the teams they lost to are worthy of praise.
The Copperheads knocked off Class A Butte Central (25-22) and Libby (25-20) and fell to defending state champion Billings Central, Columbia Falls, Dillon, Livingston, Miles City and 6B conference rival Florence.
Coming into today, Anaconda had an 0-2 record against Dillon yet played the Beavers down to the wire losing 26-24. They also hung tough with Columbia Falls – the only team to take a game off Billings Central – falling late 25-18. Another plus was a tight 25-20 loss to Florence, a team they will face next week in conference action.
Starting tomorrow at 9 a.m., Anaconda will take on Corvallis in the consolation bracket at Civic Center. A win would place them in the semifinals against the winner of Lockwood-Butte Central.
