FLORENCE – With every passing match, Florence continues to establish its athleticism and dominance. But with every matchup, Anaconda closes the gap.
The offensive juggernaut of Florence knocked off Anaconda in a straight-sets sweep Thursday night, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18, securing the No. 1 seed and 6B league championship. Anaconda had locked up the No. 2-seed following its win over Loyola on Tuesday.
Senior outside hitter Emory Ralston came up in the clutch yet again, leading the match with 11 kills. But it was the feast or famine approach from the service line for Florence, recording 10 aces led by Morton with four and Danczyk with 3.
Anaconda uses its youth to play increasingly better at the net, with freshman Brigid Mehrens (3) and eighth-graders Maizee Mitchell and Reagan Shellenberg earning seven of the teams 17 kills. Senior middle blocker Addison Jovanovich had a team-high seven kills and two of Anaconda’s five blocks with Shellenberg (2) and Mehrens earning the others.
Anaconda now turns to Senior Night next Saturday against Darby.
