Wardens edge Anaconda in 6B matchup

In their first meeting of the season, Deer Lodge managed to pull away late in every game to sweep Anaconda 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 in 6B play Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
In each game, the Wardens were able to limit errors down the stretch leading to the three-game win.
“Our communication, well, our lack of I should say hurt us tonight,” said Anaconda head coach Shane Jorgensen. “We couldn’t pass, and that led to more errors up front. I’m at a loss for words.”
The Copperheads (4-9, 2-3) did manage 27 kills on 104 attacks (.087) a mark ahead of their season average. Sydnie Peterson was the lone Copperhead in double figures in kills with 10. Johanna Forsberg and Kelsie Oxnam recorded seven and five respectively.

Defensively, Anaconda recorded 73 digs — a number that was significantly higher than their season-average of 16.8/set coming into the match. However, as Jorgensen pointed out, that was where the team faltered.
Oxnam, Forsberg and Peterson were all in double figures in digs while Carley Fink, trying to gut out an injured back, managed seven digs nine assists.
“I knew she was hurting, she just wasn’t herself,” Jorgensen said.
Anaconda will be back on the court Thursday when they travel to Florence for a rematch against the Lady Falcons.
